Apres Tout is a Deluxe category barge normally available for charter only; however on occasional weeks individual cabins may be booked.
This barge is perfect for: Couples, Families, Groups of friends, Good Cycling/Walking, Historic interest, Markets, Charming Villages, Golf.
This exceptional luxury barge on the Burgundy Canal offers the most personalised service on the waterway.
Rory and Caroline MaCrae have come from over 20 years of managing a number of the barges in the Orient Express fleet, and then purchased their own barge, the “Apres Tout”. They have used their years of experience to introduce many original ideas which take their guests’ barge holiday to a whole new level. On excursions, for example, guests are introduced not just to local sights, but personal friends. Rory calls this his “Private Access” program. For example you can enjoy an “Invitation only” winetasting in Beaune, lunch in a winery overlooking the fields and a meeting with the vineyard owner, a visit to a truffle farm, and a tour through the vineyards in World War II jeeps, to name a few. The “normal” excursions include a visit to the magnificent Hospices de Beaune, a morning in the market in Dijon, and a visit to the exquisite hilltop village and chateau at Chateauneuf-en-Auxois.
Apres Tout boasts features unheard of on other barges – satellite TV in the salon, opening windows and a Jacuzzi big enough for all guests at once! The suites are all identical and the interior décor is the epitome of simple luxury enhanced by pale oak flooring. The deck can be used for dining or just relaxing and has a large canopy to provide shade if needed.
A friendly and welcome feature of the barge is that Caroline and Rory invite guests into their places of work, the wheelhouse and the galley. From behind the wheel Rory shares his wealth of local knowledge – there is plenty of space for guests to sit and sip a glass of wine in the wheelhouse and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You are also welcome to sit in the galley and watch Caroline create her wonderful dishes, for whose recipes she is always willing to share.
Caroline’s cooking is simply delicious and showcases local cuisine and fresh ingredients. Meals are carefully paired with fine wines from Burgundy and beyond. Lunch is served as a buffet with lots of colourful salads, cold meats, terrines and of course cheese. Candle lit dinners are more formal with four plated courses, and might include such mouth-watering delicacies as Quail Egg & Caviar Tartlets, Seared Scallops with Risotto, Chestnuts and Dill, and Roast Rack of Lamb au jus.
This stretch of canal is unbroken, allowing fabulous opportunities for walking and cycling along the towpath in between those wonderful meals!
