Last year, we offered our first small group tour in Morocco, and it was everything we had dreamed about… colourful souks, spectacular countryside, beautiful food, fascinating history, warm and friendly people. So much is written about that, so I’m sure you wouldn’t have any trouble finding amazing articles! But one of the highlights for me was also our accommodation, so that’s what this post is about. It may be shallow of me, in this remarkable country where there is so much to absorb… but it was so fantastic and delightful and FUN, relaxing at the end of the day in the beautiful riads and hotels we stayed in, on the terrace with a cocktail overlooking the stunning sunsets, or in the courtyard amongst twinkling lights, being serenaded by our charming guitarist! Check out the hotels we stayed in (many of them were Relais & Chateaux which is one of my favourite hotel groups, offering exquisite properties all over the world):
This last stay was the highlight for my group, truly heaven on earth. Kasbah Tamadot is one of Richard Branson’s Limited Edition hotels and is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. We had “Berber Tents” which are not actually tents but make you feel like you’re in one! Huge, decadently luxurious, exquisitely decorated and views over a desert valley and Atlas Mountains. The restaurants are all terraced with beautiful views and delicious cuisine. For the shoppers (of which I am one), an amazing Berber shop with a plethora of gorgeous jewellery, rugs, pottery and artefacts – all profits going to Eve Branson’s (Richard’s Mum, who apparently is an incredible woman) local charity. The gift shop of the hotel is not too shabby either!
This is an example of the unique experiences this hotel offers up… one evening the staff set up a huge screen over the pool, laid out comfy chaise longues on the lawn with Bose headphones and oversized cushions… and we laid back with our drinks on that balmy peaceful evening with crickets chirping in the trees and the scent of mimosa, and watched… Casablanca!
We’ll be doing another tour to Morocco in 2017; if you’d like to know more about it please have a look at our tour here at “Magnificent Morocco“!
