A barge that has fire pits on deck?!! A barge that features 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets on the beds, and flat screen tv’s with network streaming in the bedrooms?!! A barge that serves ONLY Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines?! A barge that includes a Michelin 3-star lunch in their itinerary?!! A barge that offers touches such as fresh macaroons in a jar in the salon?!! Oh la la…
When I first stepped on board the Grand Victoria, I felt like I was entering an opulently designed yet supremely comfortable private home… hard to believe this luxurious barge ever carried any goods other than the lucky guests it carries today!
The Grand Victoria is the latest addition to our boutique collection of luxury barge cruises in Burgundy, and we are thrilled to now be representing this barge as it is unlike any other in our collection – the careful thought and attention to detail that has gone into designing the magnificent interior and superb deck area, as well as ensuring the highest level of comfort and service, is unparalleled. This is the perfect barge for a get-away with a small group of friends or a family charter, catering for six people in the most exquisite surroundings possible and at the same time exploring the best of Burgundy… one of my all-time favourite regions of France!
And don’t worry, if you just want to book one cabin, and not charter the whole barge, on most months of the year you can… and the best news for single travellers is that the owners of Grand Victoria DO NOT CHARGE A SINGLE SUPPLEMENT! Yes, you heard correctly – this is the only Ultra-Deluxe barge that makes this very generous offer to singles!
This stunning ultra-deluxe hotel barge is privately owned and operated by your wonderful hosts Edward and Cindy. They are extremely knowledgeable about food, wine and travel, and their extensive experience and exquisite taste means an exceptional cruise on board the “Queen of Burgundy”, Grand Victoria. Have a look at the stunning bedrooms and bathrooms!
The 180 square feet bedrooms (I can’t call them “cabins” – they are too swish!) are beautifully appointed with Egyptian cotton linen on the king beds and flat screen televisions with network streaming. And I LOVE the decoration in the salon/dining area!
Of course, it goes without saying that the food offered on board is a gastronomic delight, and the Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines are outstanding:
This is how Edward and Cindy describe a cruise on board their wonderful barge:
“Great travel experiences make lasting impressions. The scenic views floating by on a private charter, while lounging in the hot tub with a glass of champagne in hand, have the power to enthrall. By day, a barge trip in France overwhelms with its scenic beauty; by night, the star-packed sky leaves you speechless.
On a luxury barge cruising down the canals and rivers a meditative calm descends. And the great thing is you’ll find it all when you hit the waterways of France. Any barge vacation on the canals of France has a certain allure but when heading out on the canals there’s an additional dose of anticipation. Our itineraries are designed to provide a cultural adventure, which our guide can adapt to meet individual interests because the most exciting places can fall flat without spontaneity. It is exceptional moments that make long-lasting memories.
Bring a few friends or your family along on the adventure of a lifetime because a barge vacation with us makes an impact with authentic experiences, new profound relationships, and cultural experiences. Whether you want an active adventure out in the picturesque French countryside, a relaxed cruise down the scenic waterways, or something in between, we’re ready to help you make the lasting memories of a lifetime on a barge vacation in France. This is the stuff of travel tales.”
And about cruising in Burgundy: “Our all-inclusive barge trips in France are packed with adventure and excitement; the result is a pure French fantasy! Discover the rich flavors and zest for local life. Explore boutique shops and bustling local markets, lunch at a local bistro while pampered by the owners themselves, tour the legendary Burgundian vineyards and wineries dotting the countryside, and walk the ramparts of historic châteaux in private tours. Burgundy is even more beautiful than the imagination. There’s a special flavor with a blend of culture and tradition. It’s in the wine but it transcends everything. It’s in the graciousness of the people. It’s in the quaint villages speckled among the vineyards. And you quickly learn that the wine is only where Burgundy’s story starts. This unique journey offers exclusive and unforgettable interactions with locals. Life as you know it seems very far away!”
Cruise Highlights: Off the barge, Edward personally introduces guests to the many pleasures of the Burgundian lifestyle, partaking in private wine tastings among the famed Cote d’Or vineyards; mingling with locals while shopping for seasonal produce and regional treats at Dijon’s bustling market; and enjoying a lunch ashore at Lameloise, recently voted by discerning gourmands as one of the the world’s best restaurants.
